Fortune 500 Firms Go With Video Resume

When an idea makes sense it's only a matter of time until some industry leader becomes a first adopter. The idea of a video resume isn't new - it's been around since before the beta max. However, thanks in part to recent technology advancements it's finally easy to create a video resume and for hiring managers to view it. The challenge is how to get others on board to give video resumes a second chance - this disruptive technology is coming whether we embrace it or not.

Following our local market we learned that several Fortune 500 companies are integrating video resumes into their hiring process. Typically these companies interview thousands of candidates per year and it can take weeks or months before a candidate is extended an offer. How can anyone actually remember each candidate? What about when a key executive is unavailable to meet the candidate? What are your options - reschedule? Delay the process?

The technology to create a professional video resume is so robust that hiring managers can send a link to a candidate to complete the process from home. You can see and hear a candidate before committing to an interview - how awesome is that? Better yet, all the videos are kept in a repository so you can always refer back. When a job seeker calls to check on their status (and you can't remember them) you simply click on their video and voila! You can see and hear them once again, refreshing your memory and expediting the process.

This concept makes good business sense. If your company has a high speed internet connection, it's all you need. Contact TalentRooster.com to learn more.

Standing Out From The Crowd

I remember graduating college and seeing computers begin to come on the scene. Employees fought like heck to keep the "paper process" in place - change never comes easy. In today's world where change comes at break neck speed, how are we supposed to keep up?? In actuality we have no choice - especially those seeking employment. Hiring managers want to see candidates that "get it" and will likely teach existing employees how to do things more efficiently e.g. technology. This same principle applies with video resume technology - although it's been resisted for over ten years, change is inevitable and coming fast.

Surfing this morning I came across this piece which presented some great advice for those on board with change. I advised the writer that TalentRooster will soon be rolling out the "film yourself from home" feature, that will truly take video resumes / video CV's to the next level. Stay tuned.

Setting Yourself Apart

It's no secret that the job market sucks and shows no real signs of improvement. Compounding this challenge is that employers have their "pick of the litter" - oh how job seekers miss the 90's! A friend sent me this great piece that provides some good insight on how a job seeker can stand out and get noticed - PROFESSIONALLY as opposed to standing on a street corner with a sandwich board.... One point of contention with this article - there was NO mention of utilizing video resume technology. Apply the teachings of this article with video technology and you will increase your chances for hire by 50% or more!

Is Your Resume "Disruptive Technology"???

Over the weekend I played golf with a tech savvy friend. He described TalentRooster as "disruptive technology" that will shatter paradigms and provide a huge advantage for early adopters. I went online to learn more about how this definition applies and found a great article that is worth the read. The best example of disruptive technology I could find was smart phones - think what they are doing to traditional laptops, PC's and cell phones! They continue to evolve at breakneck speed and may make the afforementioned obsolete - who'd of thought that was possible??
If you are still attaching a Word document in an email to represent yourself, you better rethink your plan. Digital video technology is disruptive technology that will forever change the way companies hire and provide job seekers a much better chance for hire!
